SR. PASTOR

First Protestant Church’s  Senior Minister:

Rev. Dr. Andrew Keuer

With numerous branches of his family reaching back to the founding of the State of Texas, Pastor Andrew was born and raised in East Texas, and experienced an internal call to Christian ministry in late teen years. Seeing a miraculous work of revival in student-led bible study group that he organized and led created a hunger and expectation of the reality of God in daily life and the church.

College and early work drew Andrew to California (BA at The Master’s College) and then Michigan (MDIV at Calvin Theological Seminary), working in public accounting and young professionals ministry. While serving on the pastoral staff at Calvary Church (Grand Rapids, MI), Andrew met and married Lydia, who grew up in Europe where her parents were missionaries and who herself felt called to a life of Christian service from a young age.

The Keuers lived in Scotland for four years as Pastor Andrew completed a PhD in Theological Ethics at the historic King’s College at University of Aberdeen (Scotland, UK),  and in the midst of which the three little Keuers were born.

Pastor Andrew spent almost a decade in college-level and graduate-level theological lecturing and administrative leadership – first at institutions in the UK; and second, at the Greek protestant theological college in Athens, Greece where Pastor Andrew served as Professor of Theology & Ethics and Director of two academic programs.  Two little Keuers were born in Athens.

The Keuer family lived near College Station for two years, where Pastor Andrew served as Minister at a sister church of First Protestant:  Lyons Evangelical Church (an EA church).  There, God did a wonderful work of renewal which caught the eyes of the Senior Minister Search Committee at First Protestant, who reached out to Pastor Andrew and pursued his application and process of call to FPC.

The membership of First Protestant unanimously voted in October 2022 to call Rev. Dr. Keuer to become First Protestant’s next Senior Minister, to preach and teach God’s Word, administer the sacraments of baptism and Lord’s Supper, and provide leadership of staff and overall ministry vision direction to the congregation and FPC’s numerous and significant ministries.

Pastor Andrew values the German theological heritage of his family (Catholic on his mother’s side and Lutheran on his father’s), patterns of humble and mutually collaborative connection with other likeminded congregations, and the Evangelical & Reformed roots that supported healthy church life and joyful service to God’s kingdom here and now!
